Editing My Name Is John - Scene 2

I have been editing My Name is John on and off for a while now and the film has had some major and minor changes over these couple of these weeks, so over these next blogs im going to be showing each scene discussing thing that were wrong with the scenes how i fixed them and what plans i have for the future of the this Film. Unfortunately the Exports dont have sound so i will just be talking about visual cuts and what i plan to do with sound.

Scene 2 -
Scene 2 was a confusing scene as it was a very long scene with very little movement, the first draft of this scene is comprised of three shots, john walking towards the shop, john in the shop and thirdly john leaving the shop. For the first shot i had two takes two choose from one was wider than the other, originally i went with the shot that was less wide, but in the end it didn't really matter as by my second draft i had cut this shot as it just didn't seem necessary. For the shop scene itself this was a basic static shot, we did have a shot where our camera operator pans between the two, but we decided on set that this wasn't going to work, mainly because our camera operator was have difficulty keeping up with the actors, for this reason there is no real change between this clip i the first draft and the second, though i have added sound effects for where he scans the items and touches the screen unfortunately you cant hear this though as the export has no audio. For the last shot again there is no real change as i like the way that these shots work together and unlike the first shot this shot has a joke in it meaning there is no reason to cut it.

Example of the extreme wide we had as an option for the beginning

Some screen shots from the one take we got where the camera followed the action, i do like this shot and again think if our director had more confidence in our camera operator this shot could have worked.
This is the first draft before the first scene was cut.
This is what the scene ended up looking like in the second draft.
