Editing My Name is John - Scene 5

I have been editing My Name is John on and off for a while now and the film has had some major and minor changes over these couple of these weeks, so over these next blogs im going to be showing each scene discussing thing that were wrong with the scenes how i fixed them and what plans i have for the future of the this Film. Unfortunately the Exports dont have sound so i will just be talking about visual cuts and what i plan to do with sound.

Scene 5 -

Scene 5 is a scene that i have been worried about ever since filming as unlike scene 2 and 3 where we at least had the actors moving about this scene is very still with the only movement being when the actors reach for there pints, however i do think the scene works even if it is a bit long. The scene has two cut aways before it one being a establishing shot and the other is just to clarify we are in a pub the reason this second one is there is because i am looking to completely cut the first cut away, I did have some audio issues that i have mentioned before with this shot as one of our actors has a ring on that keeps tapping on his glass, but apart from that the audio is great. I do think that i need to find away of cutting this hot down though as this seems to the point in the film where people lose interest so shortening it down may keep them interested. There is another take of this scene where we pan between the two actors but again it doesn't work because or camera operator can not keep up with the dialogue, though i might be able to work with this clip inpertuiclular to make this scene shorter. The only way i have been able to make it shorter at the moment is i have the dialog start while we are over the second cut away, this only makes the scene 5 seconds shorter but does make the film run a lot smoother.

These are cut aways of the shot where we pan, they might be slightly to highly angled for what i am trying to do though.
